Did you know that over 13 million tourists visited the ancient city of Petra over the past 40 years? This year, Americans have been the largest foreign group of tourists to visit Petra, surpassing visitors from any other country.

This week, Ambassador Lempert joined the hundreds of thousands of American tourists who have visited this amazing place, and helped launch the “Green Growth Tourism Agreement,” a $15 million U.S. investment that aims to increase the number of visitors to the historical site, enhance eco-friendly tourism, and create new employment opportunities.

This agreement is one of many such joint projects in the longstanding () partnership, including U.S. investments of over $124 million since 1957 to help preserve Jordan’s cultural treasures and support Jordan’s tourism industry.

The Ambassador also met with community leaders and entrepreneurs who are innovatively shaping Petra’s future. The U.S. is proud to partner with Jordan to help preserve cultural heritage, promote tourism, and create economic opportunities.
